Edit Schlaffer, PhD, is a social scientist, author, and activist. She started ‘Women without Borders’ in 2002, an international research and advocacy organization that seeks to provide women with a platform to have their voices and their concerns heard. ‘Women without Borders’ conducts a variety of campaigns in countries around the world with the unifying goal of empowering women as agents of positive change. In 2008, she founded SAVE (Sisters Against Violent Extremism), the first global women’s anti-terror platform.
After extensive time spent in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Morocco and other Islamic countries, Guillaume Fourmont has been working on a wide variety of projects dealing mostly with Middle Eastern issues. As a journalist, he has published articles in EL PAIS, Foreign Policy and he is the author of the essay “Géopolitique de l’Arabie Saoudite”. Guillaume Fourmont lives in Madrid, where he is working at the International Desk of the spanish newspaper “PÚBLICO”.
Jake Hayman founded the strategy and philanthropy consulting firm ‘The Social Investment Consultancy’ in 2007 and holds the role of Chief Executive Officer of its European operations. Jake is also the founder of Future First, an award winning social business working to revolutionise career advisory services in UK state schools. Jake received an Arianne de Rothschild Fellowship for Columbia Business School’s intensive social enterprise programme and regularly speaks on the social enterprise movement. Previously, Jake worked in Middle East conflict resolution with the OneVoice Movement and he is an active volunteer at the Three Faiths Forum.
German actress Pegah Ferydoni was born in Tehran, Iran and emigrated with her family to Berlin at the age of 2. She appeared in numerous German television series before launching her international film career in the film with the directional debut “Women without men” by the Iranian director Shirin Neshat, which won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in 2009.
Razia Iqbal is a special correspondent, reporting for outlets across the BBC. She presents relief shifts on the BBC News Channel and presents the Talking Books Programme. She was previously the corporation's arts correspondent. Razia also presents programmes on Radio 5live and Radio 4 including PM, Front Row and Woman's Hour.
Musician, singer and current director at the Instituto Cervantes in Dublin, Rosa studied Chemistry at the Universidad Complutense before embarking on a successful music career. Rosa has recorded over 15 albums and performed poems by Alberti, Pablo Neruda, Cesar Vallejo, Blas de Otero, Gabriela Mistral, Alfonsina Storni and Carmen Martin Gaite. In September 2008 she joined the Instituto Cervantes as Director of the centre in Casablanca.
